01. Project Overview
The Project
Recypt is a sleek, card-sized device that eliminates the need for printed receipts, simplifying and improving the process while removing BPA exposure. With a single tap to a payment machine, effortlessly store, organize, and access your receipts on a secure digital platform, ensuring an eco-friendly and hassle-free experience for everyone.
The Problem
The concealed health risks within printed receipts, stemming from harmful chemicals like BPA, raise significant alarm. Additionally, their carbon emissions during production and non-recyclability due to BPA content compound the environmental impact. Furthermore, traditional receipts are inefficient and contribute to a disorganized system, making them prone to loss and difficulty to manage.
The Goal
Creating a 3D rendered product along with an intuitive, user-friendly UI that would solve the problem at hand. The main objective is to replace printed receipts entirely with a product solution that not only eliminates their traditional drawbacks but also enhances the overall receipt process.

Research on the Problem
BPA & Printed Receipts?
Coated with chemically unbound Bisphenol-A (BPA), these seemingly innocuous slips bypass first-pass metabolism, allowing unconjugated BPA to circulate the bloodstream. This carcinogenic chemical permeates the skin, disrupting reproductive and endocrine systems.
Receipts are still relevant
They serve as proof for tax deductions, especially for self-employed individuals or business-related purchases. Receipts are also crucial when making returns or exchanges, claiming warranties, and processing recalls, reimbursements, or rebates. Their physical nature ensures a reliable record for these important transactions.
What is BPA?
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical produced in large quantities for use primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics. It is found in various products including shatterproof windows, eyewear and some water bottles.
88%
of human BPA exposure results from handling thermal receipts.
12Bn
pounds of CO2 in the US alone are emitted annually from just the production of printed receipts.
93%
of printed receipts are coated with toxic unbound BPA.
The User
Intended Audience
Recypt's primary audience are eco-conscious consumers, tech-savvy individuals, and health-conscious people, offering them a sustainable, convenient, and safe alternative to paper receipts. It also appeals to businesses looking to improve efficiency and customer engagement, and minimalists seeking to reduce clutter.

How Recypt Works
User selects which card they want to use to pay and taps it against a payment machine. The receipt is then automatically loaded onto the device to view and share.
Alternatively in the case of a restaurant slip, users can tap the card machine and view the bill on the device before they make the actual payment.
